Canister Vacuum Cleaners

I have a Kenmore Intuition CrossPower canister vacuum (Model# 28014). Initially, the powerhead was not working even though the canister motor was (I assume it is probably a belt problem, but the vacuum still worked as far as picking stuff up though just a little difficult to push). However, that is not my problem now; when I was vacuuming the stairs the other day, I pulled on the hose to pull the canister up the stairs with me and the hose became disconnected from the canister.

I managed to get the hose back on the canister by taking apart the connection at the canister and hose there and putting it back together. However, now the canister motor does not turn on (in addition to the powerhead motor which did not turn on anyway), though there is power to the nozzle as well as to the powerhead since the light on it lights up when I turn on the power.

What do you think the problem is and how do I fix it? Did I somehow do something so that there is not a good connection at the hose and canister and so this prevents the canister motor from turning on as some sort of safety mechanism? Or perhaps there is something on the canister that just needs to be reset?

Any advice is much appreciated.

I am interested in one with good filtration and flexibility in movement. A canister would probably be better than an upright to get to places like corners. If bagless, how do you deal with the dust when it’s emptied?

just sold my used Dyson Upright Animal vacuum, it was 5 years old. I really don’t think I like uprights and I sold it to purchase a canister vacuum.

I can only spend 0-5 on another vacuum, but it has to be a canister. I’m trying to figure out which vacuums are better among the canisters in my price range. I really wanted a bagless one, but the one I was interested in (Hoover Windtunnel bagless canister) didn’t have the best ratings after several months of use. I also saw Dyson Stowaway DC21 (canister) on craigslist, only 1 year old for 0. Does anyone have one of those? Please respond if you have a canister and give pros and cons please. Thank you!! I really need the help picking a vacuum, I don’t want to get something that’ll break down after a few months of use. Also, I have mostly hard surface floors and only 3 bedrooms with carpet.
I am mostly interested in a vacuum that does an excellent job on hard surface flooring, but also does a good job on carpet.

I’ve had two Hoover bagless uprights and I’m tired of fixing my recent one. I have pets and need to be able to clean up cat litter. Do you recommend your vaccum cleaner? Are bagged ones more powerful? What about canister vacs? I have NO knowledge on this so any info would be appreciated!

It’s a big pain to loop them around those two hooks. I have a bad back and hate all that bending over to do so. Plus, when I turn the top hook to get the cord off and usable it gets all twisted. It’s so nice with a canister vac to just touch the button with my toe and ZIPPP, it’s all tidy.

I’ve never seen one before. I now wonder why more vac manufacturers don’t do this?

The problem is that it is too heavy and the brushes are starting to melt. Also, it is a huge chore to empty the canister because of the filter, it is so messy I have to take the canister outside and it weighs a ton. What do you recomend? I like the idea of the bagless, but are there any that aren’t so messy to empty?

I hate my vacuum. I hate the way it smells when it runs. It’s a bagless and one of those hepafilter types. I’m not all up on my vacuum cleaner knowledge, but is there a vacuum that I don’t have to worry about changing some filter, that I can just use and then empty the canister every time I use it? Are there any vacuums that are this simple? I like to vacuum and feel like I’m cleaning, not stinking up the place. And spending more than 0 is not in my budget.

in the DYSON brand. does any one have anything-good or bad to tell me about? and does the upright work as well on lino floors as the canister type? please, i need honest answers!! also, i love my H2o mop, they also have an H20 water-filter vacuum-any one have one and love it?? thanks!

I have a Just Like Home Dirt Devil Junior Upright Vacuum (which has the beads in the canister that move around when the vacuum is turned on) but a few of the wires have come off the battery part and I don’t know which wires go where…anybody out there have one of these toy vacuums and can help me out?

I have a dirt devil bagless vacuum. I have cleaned the filters. checked the hoses. I called vacuum service center and they said to try a new belt. What would a belt have to do with the sucktion?

I won’t pay more than 0.00 for a vacuum. The one I have I bought a year ago. for 0.00 work great for about 9 months.

I also have 2 dogs. The vacuum center said bagless vacuums are not good for animals.

I have also heard that the canisters are better.

My Welsh Corgi sheds like a Wildabeast!! I was wondering if anyone had tried that doggie vacuum thing. Its the one with the really long hose so that you dont have to groom the dog in the same room as the vacuum canister (the noise scares him).

witch one is better? i have always had uprights, but am considering a canister after going through 3 uprights in as many years, they have always been in the 0 range, im tired of spending that much money every year, i would like one to last at least 5 yeas

I bought a Dirt Devil vacuum today, looking for an affordable vacuum for my laminate floors. The thing makes a loud, high pitched sound that hurts my ears. I want to return it. Will WalMart take it back if it’s been used? Obviously, I’ll clean out the canister and try to wrap it back up properly.

So today our first vacuum broke, found that the roller head seized up and fried the belt due to long hair getting stuck in-between a little crevice behind the bearings and the mount. So I saw that this will be a reoccurring problem with stand ups and now focused my attention to canisters.

I don’t have a lot of experience with vacuums, so what I’m looking for is hopefully a canister vacuum with a powerful motor, a wide carpet head that does not have a roller head, maybe a fixed brush and wheels to help it glide but still brush dirt out of the carpet. Cheaper the better as well of course, but quality still comes first.

I have to multiple times take a part my dyson to clean out the stupid hose it has become a hassle! It will suck things up not great, but does. The thing is nothing gets into the canister…NOTHING! What is wrong with this stupid vacuum? Should I just call Dyson? If I had my receipt this vacuum would for sure be going back the store.

I have a lot of stairs in my house along with some wood floors. I am looking for a good vacuum that is a canister vacuum that will last me a while and one that is under 300.00. Please let me know if you know of any, THanks

Would a cylinder/canister vacuum be ok for a larger house, i like uprights but i have 3 flights of stairs! I wanted one with a real turbo brush so i still get the performance of a upright, would it be okay for a larger house, and any recommendation. Preferably bagless
